በአሪዞና ፊኒክስ እና አካባቢዋ የኦርቶዶክስ ተዋህዶ እምነት ተከታይ የሆኑ ኢትዮጵያውያን መኖር ከጀመሩ ከአራት አስርት አመታት በላይ ይሆናል። ማንም ክርስቲያን አካባቢውን ሲቀይር ቤተክርስቲያን ይኖር ይሆን ብሎ መጠየቁ የተለመደ ነው። ሆኖም በወቅቱ የኢትዮጵያውያን ቁጥር ጥቂት በመሆኑና የመገናኘት እድልም ስላልነበረ ሁሉም በየቤቱ ከመጸለይ በላይ ምንም ማድረግ አልቻሉም ነበር። ቤት ከመቀመጥ ደግሞ ቋንቋው ባይገባቸውም ከምንም ይሻላል በሚል ግሪክ ኦርቶዶክስ ቤተክርስቲያንም እየሄዱ ይገለገሉ ነበር። በዓይን ከመተያየት አልፎ ሰላምታ መለዋወጥ ብሎም ወደ መመካከር የዘለለው የኢትዮጵያውያኑ ግንኙነት በቋንቋቸው ወደመገልገል ተሸጋግረዋል።
ወልደው እንኳን ልጆቻቸውን ለማስጠመቅ ይቸገሩ እንደነበር የሚናገሩት የዚህች ቅድስት ቤተክርስቲያን መስራቾች በሁለት እግራቸው ለመቆም ብዙ ተቸግረዋል። የእግዚአብሔር ፈቃድ ተጨምሮበት እ.ኤ.አ በ1999 ዓ/ም የደብረ ምጥማቅ ቅድስት ማርያም የኢትዮጵያ ኦርቶዶክስ ተዋህዶ ቤተ ክርስቲያን ተመሰረተች። የራሷ መተዳደሪያ ደንብም ቀርጻ፣ በአሪዞና ስቴት ህጋዊ ሰውነትን አግኝታ ከተቋቋመች 23 ዓመታትን አስቆጥራለች ።
በጥቂት ብርቱ ምዕመናን የተቋቋመችው ይህች ቤተ ክርስቲያን ዛሬ ከ200 በላይ አባላት ያሏት ሲሆን፣ አገልጋይ ካህናት አባቶች፣ ወጣት ዲያቆናት እና ታዳጊ ህጻናት በአገልግሎት ይሳተፋሉ።
በእለተ ሰንበት እና በዓበይት በአላት በነጻነት በገዛ ቤተ ክርስቲያንዋ ማንኛውንም መንፈሳዊ አገልግሎት ለማከናወን የታደለችው ቤተ ክርስቲያናችን ህጻናትን የቋንቋና የመጽሐፍ ቅዱስ ትምህርት ታስተምራለች፣ ዲያቆናት እና እጩ ዲያቆናት የዲቁና ትምህርት ይማራሉ፣ የሰንበት ትምህርት ቤት ተማሪዎችም የመጽሐፍ ቅዱስ ትምህርት እና ያሬዳዊ ዝማሬ ያጠናሉ።
ቤተ ክርስቲያናችን ጥሩ የእድገት ደረጃ ላይ ብትሆንም ዛሬም መሟላት የሚገባቸው ሁኔታዎች እንዳሉን አውቀን ጠንክረን በመስራት ላይ እንገኛለን። ለዚህም የእግዚአብሔር ቸርነት እንዲጨመርበት እና ሃሳባችን የተሟላ እንዲሆን በጸሎታችሁ እና በእውቀታችሁ እንዲሁም በገንዘብ አስተዋጽኦ የምትረዱንን ሁሉ የእግዚአብሔር ቤተ ሰቦች ከልብ እናመሰግናለን።
Debre Mitmaq St. Mary Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church in Phoenix, Arizona is a thriving and growing Ethiopian church serving followers of the Ethiopian Orthodox community in the Phoenix metropolitan area. The church of St. Mary is located in south Phoenix at the North West corner of 17th Avenue and Sunland Road. The church was bought in January 2003 and started serving its community on March 3rd, 2003. The current church of St. Mary has a large prayer hall with a sitting capacity of approximately 200 people, a smaller hall equipped with a kitchen, a mobile storage room, and a classroom setup for teaching children. Before buying the current church, the congregation did not have its own church. For a period of 4 years, the weekly services were done at either rented facilities, or at other churches such as the Coptic Orthodox Church which was kind enough to let us use their halls for free. To date, the church has gone on to grow in the size of membership, services to provide, and buildings/square footage of the entire church property. In 2009, an adjacent vacant lot, on the 17th Ave side of the Church, was purchased to accommodate future development plans. The lot is now serving as a parking space for parishioners. St Mary’s Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church strives to fulfill the spiritual needs of its members by providing church and related services in a manner consistent with the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo church’s faith, values, and tradition.
